Alexis always loved capturing moments on video as kid, almost like they were a time capsule. She saw that films and videos are one of the best ways to relive those special moments, and that you can create a story with the moments you have. Knowing that film was her biggest passion, she was waiting for a chance to learn, and SAIT was her number one choice. As someone who is BIPOC and queer, Alexis hopes to normalize seeing faces like hers both on and behind the camera, and aspires to continue creating a platform for marginalized voices to be seen and heard. She also hopes to spread a message of compassion and empathy. With experience Directing both the documentary ‘Your Good Friend’, and the Music Video ‘One Step’, she can see herself pursuing a career in Directing in the future. Throughout her second year, she has also grown to like being an Assistant Editor, doing the role on multiple different productions. Yet her dream after she graduates is to create a production company with some of her classmates in the future.
Some of her favourite movies include the How to Train Your Dragon trilogy (2010; 2014; 2019), and with the film ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’, being one of her favourites for 2022.
“To be honest, I went into this program not wanting/planning to make any friends. My mindset was "Get in. Finish school. Get the certificate. Get a job." Nowhere in my plans did I expect to meet the most amazing, kind, and selfless group of film nerds and create the connections I have with them. I'm so glad I got into this program when I did because I wouldn't trade the classmates and friendships I've made with everyone. Thank you for the last two years of my life. I will cherish them forever.”
