Vercy Mae Lazaro
Vercy wanted to gain more knowledge and experience to be able to pursue her passion in filmmaking, and her time here at SAIT has given her the confidence to do so. She has learnt to keep an open mind and try new things, and through working in different departments, she has learnt that every crew role is just as important as the above-the-line positions. She aspires to tell as many stories as she can, promote more Asian representation, and maybe even help improve both the Philippine and Canadian cinema. She is always eager to learn and gain new experiences outside of her comfort zone, and will be leaving this program with the same ambition of becoming a Director. However, she can also see herself pursuing a career as a Special Effects Makeup Artist, Cinematographer, and maybe even Production Designer. After she graduates, Vercy plans on working a lot and traveling, it being a dream of hers to do both at the same time. She currently has permittee status with both DGC and IATSE, and plans to continue working and gaining experience from the union. She also wants to create, and work on more indie productions in the future.
Some of Vercy’s favourite movies include The Godfather (1972), The Eyes of My Mother (2016), Pan’s Labyrinth (2006) and Spirited Away (2001). With some of her favourite directors being Lav Diaz, Hayao Miyazaki, Guillermo Del Toro and Tatsuyuki Nagai. She also idolizes Philip Letourneau a.k.a Disco Letourneau.
