Michael De La Ossa

Michael remembers the exact moment he realized he wanted to become a filmmaker. He was at his Grandmother's house in Tucson, Arizona and was watching the 2006 remake of 'Poseidon' and he remembers thinking about how cool it was that he was watching a ship capsize in the middle of the ocean. He can still recall the exact frame, the exact moment, the exact spot he was standing in when the epiphany struck him like a train. His experience here at SAIT has altered the way he sees movies now, and throughout his time here, he has found a passion for Production Design, and is interested in pursuing it in the future. After he graduates, Michael plans on getting into a union, and working within the industry.

Michaels favourite movies are Encanto (2021), La La Land (2016), The Shining (1980), Black Swan (2010), Mother! (2017), and John Carpenter’s Halloween series. With his favourite directors being Alfred Hitchcock, Wes Craven, John Carpenter, David Gordon Green, and Darren Aronofsky. He also idolizes Taylor Swift and the music she’s written for films.

“I didn’t get accepted into the program twice before I got my seat. At first this was disappointing, but in hindsight, had I gotten in sooner I would have never met my amazing classmates. Sure, my involuntary 2 year gap period may have been a bit discouraging at times, but looking at it now, I wouldn’t change a thing.”
