Kirstin Merriman

Kirstin has always been a storyteller, internally as a child with day dreams and imaginings, and now externally as a screenwriter and a filmmaker. She feels like she has come full circle and is finally where she is meant to be. Throughout her time here, she has gained a broader understanding of what goes into making a film and has also gained an appreciation for every role that plays a part of it. Her career aspirations are to create quality films that are inclusive in their subject matter and cast. She wants to be able to affect people in a positive way through the art of film. And she would also like to elevate the Canadian film industry and continue to develop our unique voice in the world. She would ultimately like to Produce, Direct, Write, and Act. If not all those roles, then any combination of them. After she graduates, she hopes to keep in touch with her classmates and continue to make films with them, as well as finding work within the industry.

Kirstin's top six favourite movies are Silence of the Lambs (1991), the LOTR Trilogy (2001; 2002; 2003), The Fall (2006), Paris, Texas (1984), Jojo Rabbit (2019), and Prospect (2018). In terms of her favourite directors, she likes Taika Waititi, Baz Luhrmann, Ana Lily Amirpour, Tarsem Singh, and Guy Ritchie. However, Taika Waititi has had a career that she would like to emulate.

“I would like to thank my classmates and teachers for a great two years. Even though it was an unconventional school experience, I wouldn't trade it for anything and look forward to working with you in the future!”
